Press release: Official presentation of the poetry collection "Amstelveen Youth"
Amstelveen, November 16
Last night, the poetry collection "Amstelveen Youth" was presented at P60 café. The first copy of the collection was handed to Mayor Poppens, Alderman Herbert Raat, and Alderman Frank Berkhout.
The collection, with a print run of 5,000 copies, contains 25 poems written by talented Amstelveners aged 14 to 27. Bakal and Jes recited their poems to a packed audience.
The inspiring poems are the result of four workshops, led by poet and artist Hans Breuker: 'It was beautiful to see how the poems took shape during the workshops. You can't tell from the outside what lives within. It's an honor that I was trusted to read and compile these poems. The collection offers a glimpse into the soul of youth. Readers might recognize themselves in a poem and feel less alone or gain more understanding for others.'
The printed collections will be distributed free of charge among residents of Amstelveen aged 14 to 27. Amstelveen College is leading the way by providing copies of the collection to all its students, hoping that other secondary schools will follow suit and share this unique project with their students.
The library and Boekhandel Venstra will also have a supply of "Amstelveen Youth" available for enthusiasts who wish to acquire a copy.
