I still vividly remember the opening. I went there with my cheeky neighbor (I was 14 or 15). And he just claimed he belonged. We walked past all the queues and even made it into the royal box. I'll never forget that in my life. I also saw Sneijder, Marco van Basten, and Cruijff in a charity match, Van der Vaart, Zlatan, Weghorst, Brobbey, Huntelaar, and many, many other Godsons there.

The stadium opened in 1996 as Amsterdam ArenA and officially received the name Johan Cruijff ArenA in 2018. It is the home of top football in Amsterdam, a venue for major international matches and concerts, and famous for its iconic roof and stadium towers. In my art, I translate these recognizable forms into minimalist planes that read powerfully from a distance and are full of texture up close.

Why this composition?

I constructed the curve of the stadium shell and the supporting towers as a silhouette, with a red color cloud behind it that feels like pyro, passion, match tension. The XXX refers to the city — no logos or brand names, but an urban wink.
